Continuing with the theme of Banned Books Week, I thought I’d share my list of books that I want to read. Is it just me or does seeing that a book is “banned” make you want to read it more? I think I’m just curious to see if the book is truly that offensive.
- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley [insensitivity, offensive language, racism, and sexually explicit]
- Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger [offensive language, sexually explicit, unsuited to age group]
- The Giver by Lois Lowry (
I’ve heard about this book for years but still haven’t read itFinally read it!) - James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl (Finally read it!
- ) The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky [anti-family, drugs, homosexuality, offensive language, religious viewpoint, sexually explicit, suicide, unsuited to age group]
What’s on your list? Any books that you want to read? Anything I should add to my list?
Is it just me or does seeing that a book is “banned” make you want to read it more?
Nope, it doesn’t. Actually I didn’t know there still is such problem like banned books. I thought it is past already, since people are paying so much attention to freedome of word.
Yeah, it’s surprising we still have problems with this.
but why is it available on amazon if it is banned? O.o
Ahhh. Over here, it’s usually schools/school libraries trying to ban books (meaning getting the books out of their school/library). Generally the school board won’t take the book out of the library. No book is truly banned and you can’t buy a copy of it.
James and the giant peach is awesome… Now that I think of it anything by Roald Dahl is a good pick.
I agree. All of his books are pretty good.
Is “To Kill A Mockingbird” a banned book?
I think so.
That’s really good… It’s not good for younger people though.
I can speak for the quality of The Giver. I read it a long time ago in grade school, and again just last year. It’s an important book for me, and one that’s exceptionally well written for it’s intended age group in my opinion.
If you decide to read it, I’ll be interested to see if it can appeal to adults as well as children.
I think most well written children’s books can appeal to adults and children.
