“Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow” by Jessica Day George
Genre: Young Adult Fiction, Fantasy, Fairy Tale
Source: Bought
Summary from Goodreads:
When a great white bear promises untold riches to her family, the Lass (as she’s known) agrees to go away with him. But the bear is not what he seems, nor is his castle. To unravel the mystery, the Lass sets out on a windswept journey beyond the edge of the world. Based on the Nordic legend East of the Sun, West of the Moon, with romantic echoes of Beauty and the Beast, this re-imagined story will leave fans of fantasy and fairytale enchanted.
- I liked that the Lass went to save her prince. She took matters into her own hands.
- Not familiar with Norse mythology but this was fun. Trolls and polar bears. I might have to try more books like this. I know there are several retellings of East of the Sun, West of the Moon out there.
- Instalovey. I know it’s a fairy tale but it was still a bit much. I didn’t even feel their love.
- While I liked this, I didn’t love it. It’s probably my least favorite JDG book I’ve read so far.
The bottom line? Enjoyable but not loveable.
I really enjoy east of the sun and west of the moon. I highly recommend “East”/ “north child” by Edith Pattou if you enjoyed this one!
Ooh fun! Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll have to check out some other versions of the fairy tale.
Aww, this is actually my favorite JDG book. I just love this one. I have read two other East of the Sun, West of the Moon retellings, but this is my favorite by far. But maybe you will like the others more.
I’ll have to try them out sometime!
Hm, I think life’s too short for books that aren’t lovable.
Eh, I know I’ll never love everything I read so sometimes good and enjoyable have to do. 🙂
