This was a landslide decision thanks to a retweet by an author.
We’re reading Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld in August!
Ready for September’s choices?
So You Want To Be A Wizard by Diane Duane [YA Fantasy]
Something stopped Nita’s hand as it ran along the bookshelf. She looked and found that one of the books had a loose thread at the top of its spine. It was one of those So You Want to Be a . . . books, a series on careers. So You Want to Be a Pilot, and a Scientist . . . a Writer. But this one said, So You Want to Be a Wizard.
I don’t believe this, Nina thought. She shut the book and stood there holding it in her hand, confused, amazed, suspicious–and delighted. If it was a joke, it was a great one. If it wasn’t…?
Spindle’s End by Robin McKinley [YA Fantsy/Fairy Tale Re-Telling]
All the creatures of the forest and field and riverbank knew the infant was special. She was the princess, spirited away from the evil fairy Pernicia on her name-day. But the curse was cast: Rosie was fated to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a poisoned sleep-a slumber from which no one would be able to rouse her.
Matilda by Roald Dahl [Children’s Fantasy?]
For most kids, The Trunchbull is pure terror, but for Matilda, she’s a sitting duck.
Who put superglue in Dad’s hat? Was it really a ghost that made Mom tear out of the house? Matilda is a genius with idiot parents—and she’s having a great time driving them crazy. But at school things are different. At school there’s Miss Trunchbull, two hundred menacing pounds of kid-hating headmistress. Get rid of The Trunchbull and Matilda would be a hero. But that would take a superhuman genius, wouldn’t it?

I’ve wanted to read So You Want To Be A Wizard and Spindle’s End for quite a while now. I got them both for my birthday so I know I’ll get to them at some point. I’ve continually heard good things about both books so I though they would be great BHA picks. I’ve read Matilda many times. It’s yet another beloved book and I’m still working on my Roald Dahl challenge so it’s a hit all around!
How are you coming along with July’s BHA book, Little House On The Prairie?
Great picks! I love Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies and Midnighters series, but I haven’t read Leviathan. Might have to join you for that one. 🙂 I don’t know if I could read Matilda, though, having already seen the movie. You know what I mean?
I’ve read Uglies but haven’t tried Midnighters yet. Hope to you decide to join in! Well, the book is good too! The movie sticks out more in my mind though.
My vote for September would be So You Want to Be a Wizard.
So You Want To Be A Wizard! Yes yes yes! ;D
I actually picked that book out at the store because of how much you like it! 😀
I read The “So you want to be a wizard” series as a kid; it was my favourite and I still remember it being fantastic. (I think I mentioned it to you on twitter or sent a GR recommendation for it). Great one to put on the voting list
Several people have recommended it to me. It’s about time that I finally read it. 🙂
