It’s no secret that I love Goodreads. It’s a great place to keep track of what you’ve read, what you want to read, and recommendations from other people. Users of the site know that you start off with 3 shelves (read, to read, and currently reading) but you’re free to make as many shelves as you want.
These additional shelves are great because you can ‘file’ books under many different shelves. Favorites, Science Fiction, Wishlist, etc. The catch is the book must also be under one of your exclusive shelves (read, to read, and currently reading). If you’re like me, the 3 basic shelves work most of the time but not always. What if you only made it half way though a book? You can’t really consider it “read”. Allow me to show you how to make exclusive shelves to fit your needs!
Step one: Go to your bookshelves. Yours should look something like this:
Step two: Click ‘add shelf’ at the very bottom.
Step three: Name your shelf. [‘Did not finish’ is a good idea for an exclusive shelf]. Add the shelf.
Step four: Click edit at the top. [Next to bookshelves].
Step five: Find your new shelf. There are a row of check boxes next to all the shelves. Find the exclusive one for the shelf you created. Click it and you’re done!
There are endless possibilities for exclusive shelves. I highly recommend ‘did not finish.’ I also made a ‘i will read it eventually’ for the books that I have but am in no rush to read (free kindle books, classics, etc). I also have a ‘want to pick up’ shelf for books that look interesting right now but I might change my mind in a few weeks or they were recommended to me.
What are your ideas for an exclusive shelf?
