Quick Thoughts: “Monster”

“Monster” by Walter Dean Myers

Genre: Young Adult Fiction, Contemporary

Source: Bought

Summary from Goodreads:

FADE IN: INTERIOR: Early morning in CELL BLOCK D, MANHATTAN DETENTION CENTER.

Steve (Voice-Over) Sometimes I feel like I have walked into the middle of a movie. Maybe I can make my own movie. The film will be the story of my life. No, not my life, but of this experience. I’ll call it what the lady prosecutor called me … Monster.

review

-I really liked the script format of the book. It made for a really fast read and made you want to keep reading.

-I didn’t like the jumping back and forth in time. Reading it was a bit off (?) but I think it would have made more sense in video form.

-Normally I’m a fan of courtroom ‘stuff’ (I’m a total Law and Order junkie) but I really wasn’t a fan of this story for some reason.

The bottom line? The formatting is worth a read but the story itself- meh.
